Hot Yoga is the perfect lifetime fitness program and totally different from any other kind of exercise. Hot Yoga, a style of Hatha Yoga, is the physical form of yoga designed to bring balance and well-being into your life. Our Hot Yoga is built on many of the poses and philosophies of Bikram Choudhury and Bishnu Ghosh, but also integrates postures and philosophies from other styles of yoga.

Some of the differences include:

THE YOGA

  • Our classes are enhanced with music throughout. Each instructor brings their own musical taste to their play lists so there is lots of variety. From pop to electronica to yoga inspired sounds, there is something for everyone. There is no music in Bikram Yoga.
  • Our series is flexible. Even though consistency is important to measure results, daily variations are necessary to challenge the body and prevent muscle plateaus allowing for faster strength building.  Daily variations also keeps the yoga exciting and help students become unlimited in their practice. There is no flexibility in Bikram Yoga. Bikram Yoga is 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises in a prescribed sequence. Every posture and breathing exercise is done twice in the same order, every class.
  • We offer modifications and variations for different levels of students allowing beginners to progress at their own pace and more advanced students to deepen their posture. No modifications or variations are offered in Bikram Yoga.
  • We don’t do every posture twice enabling more postures to be incorporated into the series. Every posture is done twice in Bikram Yoga.
  • We include postures that further develop strength in the upper body, core, legs and buttock.
  • We also offer a Hot Vinyasa Flow class providing another opportunity for further advancement and exposure to additional postures.

THE INSTRUCTION

  • Teachers provide instruction using their own words based on their training and experience as a teacher and as a practitioner. Bikram Yoga is taught using a memorized dialogue of Bikram’s own words.

THE YOGA ROOM

  • Our floor in the yoga room is made of vinyl with a wood look – providing students with a clean and hypoallergenic practicing environment. Bikram Yoga rooms are carpeted which gets wet from sweat and over time develops an odor that can be offensive.
  • Our lighting is soft and we dim the lights at appropriate times throughout class. Bikram Yoga rooms use bright florescent lighting; lights are kept on for the entire class.

THE TEMPERATURE

  • Our yoga room is not as hot as a Bikram yoga room. We keep the temperature 101° and the humidity between 40-50%. Bikram yoga rooms are kept to a minimum of 105°. The intention of the heat is to warm the body allowing for a full range of motion in muscles, joints and ligaments and to promote sweating to detoxify the body. This can be accomplished very effectively in 101°.
