WHAT IS HOT YOGA?
Hot Yoga is a style of Hatha Yoga. Hatha Yoga is the physical form of yoga designed to bring balance and well-being into your life. It is the perfect lifetime fitness program and totally different from any other kind of exercise.
We strengthen and stretch all areas of the body, which helps to quiet the mind, and nourish the soul. The movements reach deep into the tissue, relieve tension and stress, revitalize and assist in overcoming many physical and emotional problems, such as sciatica, back and neck problems, and depression.
WHAT DIFFERENTIATES YOUR HOT YOGA FROM BIKRAM OR OTHER METHODS OF HOT YOGA?
Our Yoga is built on many of the poses and philosophies of Bikram Choudhury and Bishnu Ghosh, but also integrates postures from other styles of yoga. Even though consistency is important to measure results, daily variations are necessary to challenge the body and prevent muscle plateaus allowing for faster strength building. Daily variations also keeps the yoga exciting and helps students become unlimited in their practice. [Click to learn more...]
WHY IS THE ROOM HEATED?
- The room is intentionally heated to improve flexibility by warming your muscles and allowing for a full range of motion in muscles, joints and ligaments.
- The heat also prevents injuries and allows for a deeper release in your body.
- The heat promotes sweating which detoxifies the body by flushing toxins and poisons from your body through the skin.
- The heat speeds up metabolism to burn free fatty acids and glucose more effectively in the blood stream.
- The heat stimulates the immune system by improving the production of cells to fight off infections.
- The heat increases the heart rate for a better cardio workout.
WHAT IF I’M NOT FLEXIBLE?
A perceived sense of inflexibility is the most common obstacle that prevents people from trying yoga. Yoga, and in particular Hot Yoga, is not about how flexible you are; it is about stretching your body, quieting the mind, and healing the soul. The more inflexible you are, the more you need yoga. You become flexible by doing yoga.
WHAT IF I’VE NEVER PRACTICED YOGA?
All of the classes offered are beginner friendly and our instructors will help new students by offering modifications, encouragement and support. You do not need any experience; you do not need to be “in shape”; you just need a willing mind and the desire to change your life forever.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT REGARDING ADAPTING TO THE HEAT?
It may take a couple of classes for your body and your mind to adapt to exercising in a heated room. If you should feel a little dizzy or tired, you can sit down until it passes which is usually only a minute or two. Make sure you come to class hydrated and with an empty stomach (eat 2 to 3 hours before class). Remember, it’s just yoga, have fun!
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HOT YOGA AND HOT VINYASA FLOW?
Flow, also known as Vinyasa, is incorporated into both the Hot Yoga and Hot Flow classes. In the Hot Yoga class, we begin warming up the body by doing Sun Salutations and Moon Salutations. These sequences link High plank, Chaturanga push up, Upward Facing Dog and Downward Facing Dog into a continuous flow style. In the Hot Flow class, we use this continuous flow style to link many more postures together creating a continuous movement of practice for a longer period of time. Additional postures, variations and amplifications are also introduced. Many of the same postures that are practiced in the Hot Yoga class are also practiced in the Hot Flow class. Hot Flow is a vigorous class, combining upper body strength, flexibility and cardio. If you’ve done a couple of Hot Yoga classes and like the Flow at the beginning of the class, then you will enjoy Hot Flow. Hot Flow is designed for students of all levels (beginner friendly) seeking a challenge.
